Not all wedding packages are created equal – or are they? Keep reading to discover the truth about resort wedding packages. Do all resorts have wedding packages? Yes! What is included in a typical wedding package? In addition to your resort’s all-inclusive benefits, wedding packages can include everything from expert wedding designers and décor, to sound systems, the ceremony officiant, a wedding certificate, a reception dinner, a honeymoon or spa package, and much more! How much do wedding packages cost? Many resorts have a complimentary wedding package when you stay 7 nights or reach a certain number of guest rooms. In fact, free wedding packages typically provide all the basics that you need for your wedding day. The free package is a great way to start planning. Looking for something more custom or specific? Well then, say no more – because most resorts also offer premium wedding packages for a small upcharge to match your specific preferences and personality! You can even build your package ala carte if you prefer. Do wedding packages vary by resort? Yes and no. While resorts present their wedding packages a little differently, at the end of the day, you’re getting the same goodies for around the same price. In fact, resorts in the same destination are often using the same vendors!! We always say... "don't just a resort by it's wedding package, because what one can do, they ALL can do!" How do I pick the right wedding package? Since all wedding packages are pretty much the same, we recommend selecting your dream resort first. Once you decide on the perfect place, then you can customize the wedding package of your dreams. How do I know what resort to pick? This all depends on your preferences! What amenities are important to you? Are you a beach-lover? A foodie? Want something private and adult-only? These are the things you’ll want to add to your wish list when working with your destination wedding specialist. So there you have it – the truth about wedding packages! That’s right! Destination weddings have grown in popularity over the years for their budget-friendly options, casual atmosphere, and incredible memories. We recommend traveling during off-season (September and October) when rates are the lowest. Besides the best room rates, you’ll also find that resorts have lower occupancy levels during this time, leaving plenty of pool chairs open for everyone. Be sure to avoid holidays, as that’s when rates go up significantly! Opt for All-Inclusive For the best value, all-inclusive is the way to go. It’s much easier to plan your budget (and your guests’ budgets) when you get to factor in meals, drinks, entertainment, airport shuttles and taxes. Convenience is also huge reason couples opt for all-inclusive resorts and hotels. Utilize Your Surroundings Nothing says “I love you” quite like some swaying palm trees and an ocean view! We recommend keeping your venue simple so you can save money on other “musts” you’d like to include in your big day. So, allow Mother Nature to take care of some of the work and expense for you! Free Wedding Packages Most destination wedding resorts offer a complimentary wedding package, which includes everything you’ll need for your wedding. We recommend starting out with the basic package first, then adding in where it makes sense. Pick Your Own Vendors If you have a preferred vendor at a price you’re happy with, then bring ‘em along with you! As long as they are staying at the resort with you for three nights, they are not typically considered outside vendors and you won’t have to pay extra to use them. This works great for photographers, hair stylists and make-up artists. Honeymoon Split-Stay Most couples like to combine their wedding and honeymoon to save on costs. For example, you can stay at the wedding resort for 5-6 nights while guests are there, then move to a new resort where you can honeymoon for 3-4 more nights. This will save you a lot in airfare! Use a Destination Wedding Expert The absolute best way to keep your wedding in your budget range, is to use a destination wedding planner. A good travel pro will help you navigate the experience, all while keeping your preferences in mind! Looking for a little push in the right direction? Why spend nearly $35k on a traditional wedding, when you can have a unique and intimate destination wedding for under $10k? Here are seven tips for keeping your destination wedding budget in check without sacrificing any of the fun or frills: Travel During Off-Season
The best rates are found during off-season in September and October. Besides the best room rates, you’ll find that resorts have lower occupancy levels during this time, leaving plenty of pool chairs open for everyone. November and December are also good options, as long as you avoid the holidays (when rates and occupancy goes way up)! Find an All-Inclusive Option For the best value, you must go all-inclusive. When all your meals, drinks, entertainment, airport shuttles and taxes are included, guests can gauge their budgets and plan accordingly. This is especially true for wedding groups, as the cost you pay for private dinners and events is significantly reduced. Convenience is also huge reason couples opt for all-inclusive. Choose a Simple Setting A big draw to having a destination wedding is the natural and intimate setting it presents. Not only will it save you money on venue costs, but sometimes less really is more. After all, nothing says “I love you” like some swaying palm trees and an ocean view! Find a Complimentary Wedding Package Most destination wedding resorts offer a complimentary wedding package, which covers all the elements you’ll need to pull off the perfect wedding. Some even offer an extravagant package that includes more than you’ll ever need. We recommend starting out with the basic package first, then add in where it makes sense! Bring in Your Own Vendors Have a photographer friend or hair-stylist BFF? Perhaps a DJ’ing college roomie? Well then, you’re in luck! As long as these pros are staying at the resort with you for three nights, they are not typically considered outside vendors and you won’t have to pay extra to use them. Ask us how you can negotiate travel for these services. Opt for a Honeymoon Split-Stay Another great way to cut down on costs is to combine your destination wedding and honeymoon (aka, a split-stay). Most couples stay at the wedding resort for 5-6 nights while guests are there, then move to a new resort where you can honeymoon for 3-4 more nights. This will save you a lot in airfare! Use a Destination Wedding Expert Last but not least…use a wedding travel specialist (that’s us!). A good travel pro will make suggestions for you and knows the resorts that offer the most amenities based on what your needs are. Trust us, you’ll be glad you did! So, there you have it. With over 25% of weddings now taking place away from home, destination weddings have evolved into a cost-effective, meaningful and unique way for couples to share their wedding experience with their guests. Planning a wedding from a thousand miles away can still feel a bit daunting at first, but it is impossible to ignore the gorgeous beach wedding photos on Pinterest and Instagram, right? If you feel the little spark of hope in your heart as you scroll through destination wedding ideas, don’t ignore it! Don’t be afraid of it! Planning a destination wedding has come a long way and is now actually easier to plan - and MUCH cheaper - than a wedding at home. Here are a few questions you may be asking yourself: 1. How will I ever decide on a location and resort? This is often the most difficult part of planning a destination wedding. Our best advice here is to find a travel agent that specializes in planning destination weddings. Anyone can book a trip. But planning a destination wedding for 20, 40 or 100 guests takes a completely different set of skills. Need a recommendation? Reach out to one of the award-winning agents at Romance Travel Group. Destination weddings are our passion! 2. What will my guests think? Most of your guests will be thrilled at the idea of a vacation with you! Some will be concerned about cost or safety. Your agent will communicate with your guests, answering all their questions and making sure they know everything they need for their trip. Trust us… your guests will RAVE about your wedding. Many destination wedding groups start traveling together every year because they had such a great time at the wedding. They will have a great time, and they will thank you for nudging them outside of their comfort zone a bit. 3. How much will all this cost? Legit question! We often say that the couple can expect to pay under $10,000 for the trip, ceremony and reception. This can vary, of course, but it is a good estimate. Your guests can expect to pay about $1100 for a 3 night/4 day all-inclusive experience in Mexico or the Caribbean. 4. How can I be sure my wedding will be what I want? Most resorts have wedding departments with a team of coordinators on-site that will execute your vision. You can send them photos, Pinterest boards, spreadsheets, etc, and they will recreate the wedding of your dreams. Just about anything you see at local weddings can also be done in destination. 5. Who is going to help with all the travel plans? Remember that destination wedding travel expert we mentioned? She will work with each guest to create the trip that works best for them. Some guests will make a week-long vacation out of their trip, while others will only be able to sneak away from 3 nights. No problem! Your agent will handle all the details so you don’t have to. 6. How will I know what needs to be done? Your travel expert and the resort’s wedding coordinator will ensure everything has been considered and your big day is executed perfectly. Together, they’ll help you through all the steps and decisions that need to happen. You’ll be amazed at how seamlessly everything comes together. Did we answer some of the questions you no-doubt have about planning a destination wedding? We hope so! We know how overwhelming it can seem at first, but once you find your travel expert, everything will fall into place quickly. You can do this!! Need an expert to help? Call Shelli today!
Charming hospitality, lively culture, and world-class beaches? There’s a whole ‘lot to love about a Mexico destination wedding! Affordable One of the biggest destination wedding myths we hear often is that it’s too expensive. However, with the traditional American wedding costing around $30,000, it's no wonder most people assume a wedding in a remote location would be more. Luckily, most properties in Mexico can hold a beautiful wedding ceremony and reception for you and your guests for as little as $15,000… which is significantly cheaper than your average wedding! Customizable Mexico is one of our most popular destinations for brides because of how flexible its wedding packages are. We partner with a variety of properties who value your uniqueness and creativity. That ocean pier ceremony you’ve been dreaming about? Done. The monogrammed dance floor and custom cocktail you requested? You’ve got it. The possibilities are endless. All-Inclusive Another reason why Mexico is great for destination weddings is the all-inclusiveness. Most properties include meals, drinks, entertainment, and some excursions during your stay, so everyone is taken care of all day and night. We also have a number of properties that offer free wedding packages, which include everything from a private ceremony location, to the cake and DJ. Complimentary Add-Ons How often do you hear the word “complimentary” associated with planning a wedding? Yeah, not so much. But in Mexico, it’s no surprise to see complimentary sky massages, champagne and strawberries, or private dinners thrown in as a way of saying “congrats” to the happy couple. We’ve even helped our brides and grooms get complimentary honeymoon nights as an added bonus. Easy to Plan Imagine having all the little details taken care of for you, as you watch your wedding dreams fall into place. That’s right! A destination wedding in Mexico isn’t as hard to plan as you think. In fact, we’ll work with you side-by-side to ensure your day runs as smooth and stress-free as possible. Curious how much to budget for your destination wedding? Well, here it is! A quick budget breakdown that might surprise you. One question we hear all too often is, “how much does a destination wedding cost?” While a traditional wedding can typically be around $32,000, we can plan the destination wedding of your dreams for nearly a quarter of the cost. How? Simple! Here’s a breakdown of what most couples spend:
The Resort – For 7-nights at an all-inclusive resort, expect to spend approximately $3,000 for the both of you. Now, most resorts charge between $150-$250 per person, per night, but that includes your room, your meals, your drinks, airport shuttles and taxes. Of course, you’ll probably want to bring a little extra cash for spending and gratuities at your discretion. Also keep in mind, prices may vary depending on the time of year you book, as well as the resort you select. The Flights – For 2 round-trip flights, you’re looking at a total cost of around $1,000. This will also be dependent upon the airline you’re using, the time of year, and of course, your destination of choice. The Wedding Package – Most resort wedding packages can range between $0 and $5,000. You heard that! And although some properties offer some really great free wedding packages, most couples spend about $2,500 for additional customization, upgrades, etc. Packages typically include the ceremony location, bride’s bouquet, groom’s boutonniere, officiant, cake, chairs, and semi-private dinner for around 40 guests. So, for a grand total of about $7000, you and your fiancé can enjoy a week-long tropical wedding celebration! Now, that’s something we can get on board with! For more information, check out this exclusive interview with our favorite romance travel expert, or click here to start planning your wedding today. We look forward to chatting with you!

Then, we’ll get to work on hand-selecting a few resorts we think would be absolutely perfect for your destination wedding, based on everything you’ve shared with us. After that, we’ll help you select the resort, book the date and soon, you’ll be inviting guests! Ready to start planning? We sure are! We can’t wait to hear from you! To help you narrow down all of the destination and resort options, start by asking yourself these 5 questions:
Destination Try to keep travel times within reason. For example, you won't want to plan a Hawaii wedding if guests need to fly for 9 hours and can only stay for 3 nights. Likewise, the more exotic islands can often require multiple airline connections to get there. Assume all guests will need a passport. The top destinations are Mexico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, but really, the possibilities are endless. Ceremony Type There are two types of ceremonies for destination weddings; legal and symbolic. Some locations are better than others for legal ceremonies. For a legal ceremony, you’ll need to follow all of the laws of the country you are traveling to. If you absolutely must have a legal ceremony, we recommend avoiding the Dominican Republic and Aruba. To have a symbolic ceremony, you would be legally married at home by your clergy or courthouse before you travel. At your destination wedding, you will celebrate your union as if it were your actual wedding with flowers, music, vows and other ceremony details. Your guests will not know the difference between a legal and symbolic ceremony. Approximately 80% of all destination weddings are symbolic. It is so much easier! Resort Do you envision something small and intimate, or something loaded with activities and energy? We highly recommend all-inclusive resorts that include meals and drinks. This makes it so much easier for your guests to budget for their trip. And, many all-inclusive resorts include a semi-private reception with their wedding packages, which saves you money. Perhaps money that could be spent on a nice upgrade to the honeymoon suite! Are you beach people, or pool people? Are you foodies? Are you super casual, or more refined? Adults Only, or Family Friendly If all of your guests are 18+, do adults only! The adult only resorts offer an elevated atmosphere and experience for your wedding day. Some resorts have an adults only “section” while the rest of the resort is family friendly. These often make a great compromise for wedding groups. Budget Consider how much you're comfortable having your guests pay for a 3-night vacation. Typically, budgets start at approximately $1000 per person for a 3 night, all-inclusive vacation including air, hotel, transfers, meals, drinks, tips and taxes. Remember though, you get what you pay for. The rumors are true! Having a destination wedding costs less and is easier to plan then a traditional wedding at home. The average cost of a wedding in the States has climbed to over $32,000. By comparison, the couples who plan their destination weddings with us are spending a fraction of that, often coming in under $10,000 total for a 3-night/4-day event. So how do we do it? Here are 7 ways to keep the budget in check without sacrificing any of the fun, frills and experience of your destination wedding.
Go all-inclusive It is no secret that all-inclusive resorts serve up great value. When all meals, drinks, entertainment, airport shuttles and taxes are included, your guests know the total trip cost up front and can easily budget for it. This is especially true for wedding groups. Because it is all-inclusive, the cost you pay for private dinners and events is significantly reduced. Convenience is also a major factor! Travel off season The best rates are found off-season in September and October. Besides rock bottom room rates, you’ll find that resorts are running at lower occupancy levels during the off-season, leaving plenty of pool chairs open for everyone. November and December are good, too, as long as you avoid the holidays. And, because final payments for travel are often due 60-70 days before travel, you don’t have to worry about the trip interfering with Christmas. Choose the right wedding package Almost all resorts offer a complimentary wedding package. They also all offer an extravagant package that includes more than you’ll ever need. Consider starting with just the basic package, then add in little pops of customization here and there where it makes sense. Resorts won’t typically negotiate with the inclusions you don’t want, so start small, then add your personality piece by piece. Bring your own pros Have a photographer friend? A hair-stylist bff? A DJ’ing college roomie? As long as these pros are staying at the resort with you for 3 nights, they are not usually considered outside vendors and you will not have to pay extra to use them. Ask around and negotiate travel for services. Honeymoon split-stay Almost 80% of destination wedding couples still take a honeymoon. Consider a split-stay. This means you’ll stay at the wedding resort for 5-6 nights while your guests are there, but then after the wedding, we’ll help you move to a new resort where you can honeymoon for 3-4 more nights. This will save you a lot in airfare. Keep it natural What is more beautiful than the soft white sand, crystal clear blue water and a swaying palm tree? The scenery is already gorgeous, so is there really a need for all the extra fluff? Keep it simple and natural. Use a wedding travel specialist Ah, there it is. You had to know it was coming! Using a wedding travel specialist like the ones at Romance Travel Group is the best way to ensure you are considering all the options. A good travel pro will make suggestions for you and knows the resorts that offer the most amenities based on what your needs are. She is worth her weight in gold! Convinced that yes, you can do a destination wedding? We hope so! We’d love to make this a reality for you. Fill out our destination wedding questionnaire to get the conversation started. After helping hundreds of couples plan their big day, we know a thing of two about the best locations and resorts out there. There is one resort that has been consistently topping our most recommended list for the last few years now; Generations Riviera Maya. The best things about Generations Riviera Maya, aside from their beautiful wedding venues, are the top notch butler service and garden-fresh, expertly prepared meals. Quality oozes from this resort and your guests will definitely be treated to a vacation of a lifetime. Destination weddings at Generations Riviera Maya are extra special. He popped the question and you said yes! Congratulations! Now thoughts of a tropical destination wedding are drifting through your mind. So many questions! A wedding pro can definitely handle the big stuff, like booking the wedding date and coordinating guest travel. But before you even get to that part, how do you know if a destination wedding is for you? Ask yourself these questions

There are several things to consider when planning a destination wedding. Here is a list to get you thinking: Budget Consider how much you're comfortable having your guests pay for a 3-night vacation. Typically, budgets start at approximately $1000 per person for a 3 night, all-inclusive vacation including air, hotel, transfers, meals, drinks, tips and taxes. Remember though, you get what you pay for. Dates Your wedding date will determine how much the trip will cost.
Guests Don’t be upset if not everyone on your guest list can join you due to time or money constraints. Generally, about 30-40% of those you invite will be able to attend your destination wedding. Most couples have a reception back at home to celebrate with those who were unable to attend. Destination Try to keep travel times within reason. For example, you won't want to plan a Hawaii wedding if guests need to fly for 9 hours and can only stay for 3 nights. Likewise, the more exotic islands can often require multiple airline connections to get there. All guests will need a passport. Most resorts will require the bride, groom and witnesses to arrive 3 full days prior to the wedding ceremony. Ceremony Location Beach, gazebo, garden, chapel? Resorts usually have many options for you to choose from based on your desires and number of guests. Resorts also have a back-up plan and location in case of inclement weather. Ceremony Type There are two types of ceremonies for destination weddings. You can have a LEGAL ceremony, where you are legally married in your destination and receive a marriage certificate that is recognized at home. Legal ceremonies often cost a little more and require extra paperwork and occasionally blood tests. Or, you can have a SYMBOLIC ceremony that has no legal holding. Our experienced and dedicated team of destination wedding travel specialists is just what you need to help you through all of the planning. And remember, we do not charge fees to work with us!
