Popular Destination Wedding Locations Mexico, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic are some of the most popular destinations for destination weddings. These locations offer a variety of all-inclusive resorts, making it easier for couples to plan their wedding without having to worry about every little detail. The abundance of all-inclusive resorts also makes it easier for guests to attend, since their rooms, meals, drinks and activities are all included in one upfront price. Average Cost of a Destination Wedding
The average size destination wedding is about 50 guests, making it a more intimate and personal event. On average, couples spend between $10,000 to $15,000 on all the elements required to host a destination wedding. This estimate includes their 7-night trip, the ceremony, cocktail party, and dinner reception for all guests. It also includes all the food, drinks, tables, chairs, standard linens, servers, and venues. When compared to the average cost of a traditional wedding in the United States, which is well over $30,000 for a six-hour event, a destination wedding is a much more affordable option. Not only will you save money, but you will also have the opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends for a full four days, creating lasting memories together. Tips for Saving Money on a Destination Wedding There are several ways to save money on a destination wedding without sacrificing quality. One of the best ways is to book your wedding during the fall months, when room rates are typically lower. Another idea is to rely on the resort’s natural surroundings for your décor. Who needs tulle, chandeliers and bows when you have swaying palm trees, clear blue waters and white sand beaches? For larger wedding groups, it will be important to find a resort that offers the best group amenities to help cover the reception costs. (Hint: we know the best resorts for this! wink, wink!) More time with guests, time in a tropical destination AND half the cost? You heard right! Our wedding experts will help you navigate the process. Even OUR services are complimentary, so why wouldn't you want to explore the idea of a destination wedding? You and your guests will be thrilled that you did. Wedding Date: March 3, 2022 ~ Resort: The Fives Beach ~ Photographer: Timeless Photography ~ Bridal Salon: Posh Why did you choose Romance Travel Group?
After doing some research around how to start planning a destination wedding in Mexico, I came across RTG in a Google search. I chose RTG after having a kick-off call with Shelli. She made me feel very comfortable with the way she explained how her company works, their process, and how they care about each unique wedding; it made me excited to want to move forward with even doing a destination wedding. She is SO friendly! What led you to choose a destination wedding? My husband and I knew we didn’t want to get married in Minnesota (where we live). After exploring destination weddings in other states (Arizona, Florida, and North Carolina), I realized how complex and expensive it’d be to do a “destination” wedding elsewhere in the US. Then, someone asked if I had thought about doing it in Mexico. I was hesitant at first, but after doing some research online, I read that destination weddings at all inclusive resorts in Mexico are so much more affordable! We probably saved ourselves $10-$15k just by doing it in Mexico. How did you select the resort? What were the deciding factors? I explained my budget, resort must-haves, and style I was looking for to Shelli. I was excited about all of the unique areas around the resort that would be awesome for pictures and it was family friendly which was important to us since there would be kids traveling. What were some of your biggest fears about having a destination wedding? Planning a wedding sight unseen. But, it ended up exceeding my expectations once I saw how everything was curated and set up for each event. Describe what it was like working with the wedding coordinator at the resort? What went well? Any challenges? The wedding coordinator was very friendly, patient, flexible, and listened to my budget concerns…helping to give me ideas and options that would fit into what I wanted to spend. The biggest challenge was getting timely responses from them. At one point, I hadn’t heard from them for 3 months and we were 1-2 months away from the wedding without having finalized all selections! Once back in touch with them, finalizing planning went well and they were really responsive. Describe the booking process for your guests. Did they find that to be easy to navigate? Yes! We received many compliments from our guests around how easy, communicative, and professional RTG was to book with. What were some of your biggest fears or things you worried about as your wedding date drew near? How did you get through this? Getting all details finalized with the wedding coordinator. It was indicated that we had to make final selections and payment 1 month before the wedding but I hadn’t heard from them in 3 months. But they ended up letting me finalize and make selections even up to the wedding day! Describe the meeting you had with the onsite wedding team when you arrived at the resort. The meeting I had with the onsite coordinator when we arrived went very well! We went over every single detail. She gave me her whats app phone number to communicate with her leading up to the wedding day which was great for last minute questions. She was a really hard worker. How easy/difficult was it to travel with your wedding dress? Did you carry-it on, where did you store it? Did you get a lot of comments at the airport? It was easy to travel with the dress for the most part. I did carry it on and was able to store it in the first class closet on the way down to MX, but on the way back, I had to lay it down in an overhead bin. I did get some comments at the airport on the way down! Tell us about your wedding – did you have a traditional wedding with a cocktail hour, dinner reception and dance? What was different about a destination wedding compared to a wedding at home? We had a welcome reception the evening before the wedding (drinks and apps). The day of the wedding was the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception (+ DJ and dancing!). It was just easy for everyone to be in one place the day before and the day of the wedding. Easy to navigate around from event to event and it just felt more intimate! And each area around the resort that we held the events at were beautiful and unique in their own way. What is your most favorite memory of your wedding experience? The reception! It was just so memorable and fun to have all of our favorite people together to celebrate with us. The music, ambiance, and staff made the evening even more special! In what ways did Romance Travel Group make the planning less stressful for you? Being able to book our guests' travel and answering any questions they had! What would you do differently? What advice would you give to couples just starting the planning process? I wouldn’t do anything differently. Only advice is to be patient with the planning coordinator as you plan with them leading up to traveling. As mentioned, you may not hear from them for a while but it will ALL come together! Also, think about decor that you can bring down on your own to save $$ (they charge A LOT for decor). We brought down our own string lights, votives + candles, table numbers, and other decor. Would you recommend Romance Travel Group to other couples who are considering a destination wedding? Absolutely! 100%. Everyone loves a little something for free, right? Here's our latest lineup of the best resorts offering complimentary wedding packages. Let's explore these together to see which option works best for your destination wedding dreams! Royalton Resorts

Curious what our couples ask us most often during the wedding planning process? We're revealing their questions, below! How much does a destination wedding cost? For 7-nights at an all-inclusive resort, expect to spend approximately $3,000 for the both of you. Most resorts charge between $150-$250 per person, per night – but that includes your room, your meals, your drinks, taxes and airport transportation. For 2 round-trip flights, you’re looking at a total cost of around $1,000. This will also be dependent upon the airline you’re using, the time of year, and of course, your destination of choice. The wedding usually consists of 4 events; a welcome party, the ceremony, a cocktail hour, and a dinner reception. Wedding packages typically include the ceremony location, bride’s bouquet, groom’s boutonniere, officiant, cake, chairs for about 40 guests. Packages range from $0 (you read that right!) to $15,000, but most couples all into the mid-range of $5000 - $7000. So, for a grand total of about $10,000, you and your fiancé can enjoy a week-long tropical wedding celebration for about a quarter of the cost of a normal wedding! For more on costs, check out our Destination Wedding Cost chart. Which resorts are the best to get married? There's a lot to think about! Destinations, budgets, guest count, venue ideas. We cover a lot of this here. But we also suggest going with the resorts that have FREE wedding packages! Why spend nearly $40k on a traditional wedding, when you can have a unique and intimate destination wedding for under $10k? Here are seven tips for keeping your budget in check without sacrificing any of the fun or frills: Go All-Inclusive For the best value, we highly recommend going all-inclusive. When all your meals, drinks, entertainment, airport shuttles and taxes are included, guests can gauge their budgets and plan accordingly. This is especially true for wedding groups, as the cost you pay for private dinners and events is significantly reduced. Convenience is also huge reason couples opt for all-inclusive. It is the best way to travel! Pick Off-Season The best rates are found during off-season in September and October. Besides the best room rates, you’ll find that resorts have lower occupancy levels during this time, leaving plenty of pool chairs open for everyone. November and December are also good options, as long as you avoid the holidays (when rates and occupancy goes way up)! Choose a Simple Setting A big draw to having a destination wedding is the natural and intimate setting it presents. Not only will it save you money on venue costs, but sometimes less really is more. After all, nothing says “I love you” like some swaying palm trees and an ocean view! Bring Your Own Vendors Have a photographer friend or hair-stylist BFF? Perhaps a DJ’ing college roomie? Well, then, you’re in luck! As long as these pros are staying at the resort with you for three nights, they are not typically considered outside vendors and you won’t have to pay extra to use them. Ask us how you can negotiate travel for these services. Free Wedding Package Most destination wedding resorts offer a complimentary wedding package, which covers all the elements you’ll need to pull off the perfect wedding. Some even offer an extravagant package that includes more than you’ll ever need. We recommend starting out with the basic package first, then add in where it makes sense! Honeymoon Split-Stay Another great way to cut down on costs is to combine your destination wedding and honeymoon (aka, a split-stay). Most couples stay at the wedding resort for 5-6 nights while guests are there, then move to a new resort where you can honeymoon for 3-4 more nights. This will save you a lot in airfare! Use a Destination Wedding Planner Last but not least…use a wedding travel specialist (that’s us!). A good travel pro will make suggestions for you and knows the resorts that offer the most amenities based on what your needs are. Trust us, you’ll be glad you did! Looking for a little push in the right direction? Then, fill out our destination wedding questionnaire to get the conversation started. We’ll get back in touch with you soon to chat! P.S. Charming hospitality, lively culture, and world-class beaches? There’s a whole ‘lot to love about a destination wedding! Keep scrolling to learn more! Destination Weddings are Cost-EfficientIt's Super Affordable One of the biggest destination wedding myths we hear often, is that it’s too expensive, but with the traditional American wedding costing around $30,000 or more, it's no wonder most people assume a wedding in a tropical paradise would be more. Luckily, most properties in Mexico can hold a beautiful wedding ceremony and reception for you and your guests for as little as $10,000 – significantly cheaper than your average wedding. And All-Inclusive Another reason why Mexico is great for destination weddings is the all-inclusiveness. Most properties include meals, drinks, entertainment, and activities, so everyone and anyone is taken care of all day and night. We also have a number of properties that offer free wedding packages, which include everything from a private ceremony location, to the cake and drinks. You Can Truly Make it YoursAll The Add-Ons How often do you hear the word “complimentary” associated with planning a wedding? Yeah, not so much. But in Mexico, it’s no surprise to see complimentary sky massages, champagne and strawberries, or private dinners thrown in as a way of saying “congrats” to the happy couple. We’ve even helped our brides and grooms get complimentary honeymoon nights as an added bonus. 😉 And Customizations Mexico is one of our most popular destinations for brides because of how abundant the options are. We partner with a variety of properties who value your uniqueness and creativity, so that ocean pier ceremony you’ve been dreaming about? Done. The monogrammed dance floor and custom cocktail you requested? You’ve got it. It's Not as Hard to Plan as You ThinkPlanning as Easy as 1-2-3 Imagine having all the little details taken care of for you, as you watch your wedding dreams fall into place. That’s right! A destination wedding isn’t as hard to plan as you think. In fact, we’ll work with you side-by-side to ensure your day runs as smooth and stress-free as possible. We’ll even introduce you to the onsite wedding coordinator to go over all the fun details like decorations, food, and seating arrangements so everything’s covered before you get there. The best part? Well then, you’re in luck! As long as these pros are staying at the resort with you for three nights, they are not typically considered outside vendors and you won’t have to pay extra to use them. Ask us how you can negotiate travel for these services. Opt for a Honeymoon Split-Stay Another great way to cut down on costs is to combine your destination wedding and honeymoon (aka, a split-stay). Most couples stay at the wedding resort for 5-6 nights while guests are there, then move to a new resort where you can honeymoon for 3-4 more nights. This will save you a lot in airfare! Use a Destination Wedding Expert Last but not least…use a wedding travel specialist (that’s us!) A good travel pro will make suggestions for you and knows the resorts that offer the most amenities based on what your needs are. Trust us, you’ll be glad you did!
