Real Wedding: Laure'n & Jonathan at The Fives Beach

Wedding Date: March 3, 2022 ~ Resort:  The Fives Beach ~ Photographer: Timeless Photography ~ Bridal Salon: Posh
Why did you choose Romance Travel Group?
After doing some research around how to start planning a destination wedding in Mexico, I came across RTG in a Google search. I chose RTG after having a kick-off call with Shelli. She made me feel very comfortable with the way she explained how her company works, their process, and how they care about each unique wedding; it made me excited to want to move forward with even doing a destination wedding. She is SO friendly!

What led you to choose a destination wedding?
My husband and I knew we didn’t want to get married in Minnesota (where we live). After exploring destination weddings in other states (Arizona, Florida, and North Carolina), I realized how complex and expensive it’d be to do a “destination” wedding elsewhere in the US. Then, someone asked if I had thought about doing it in Mexico. I was hesitant at first, but after doing some research online, I read that destination weddings at all inclusive resorts in Mexico are so much more affordable! We probably saved ourselves $10-$15k just by doing it in Mexico.

How did you select the resort? What were the deciding factors?
I explained my budget, resort must-haves, and style I was looking for to Shelli. I was excited about all of the unique areas around the resort that would be awesome for pictures and it was family friendly which was important to us since there would be kids traveling.

What were some of your biggest fears about having a destination wedding?
Planning a wedding sight unseen. But, it ended up exceeding my expectations once I saw how everything was curated and set up for each event.

Describe what it was like working with the wedding coordinator at the resort? What went well? Any challenges?
The wedding coordinator was very friendly, patient, flexible, and listened to my budget concerns…helping to give me ideas and options that would fit into what I wanted to spend. The biggest challenge was getting timely responses from them. At one point, I hadn’t heard from them for 3 months and we were 1-2 months away from the wedding without having finalized all selections! Once back in touch with them, finalizing planning went well and they were really responsive.

Describe the booking process for your guests. Did they find that to be easy to navigate?
Yes! We received many compliments from our guests around how easy, communicative, and professional RTG was to book with.

What were some of your biggest fears or things you worried about as your wedding date drew near? How did you get through this?
Getting all details finalized with the wedding coordinator. It was indicated that we had to make final selections and payment 1 month before the wedding but I hadn’t heard from them in 3 months. But they ended up letting me finalize and make selections even up to the wedding day!

Describe the meeting you had with the onsite wedding team when you arrived at the resort.
The meeting I had with the onsite coordinator when we arrived went very well! We went over every single detail. She gave me her whats app phone number to communicate with her leading up to the wedding day which was great for last minute questions. She was a really hard worker.

How easy/difficult was it to travel with your wedding dress? Did you carry-it on, where did you store it? Did you get a lot of comments at the airport?
It was easy to travel with the dress for the most part. I did carry it on and was able to store it in the first class closet on the way down to MX, but on the way back, I had to lay it down in an overhead bin. I did get some comments at the airport on the way down!

Tell us about your wedding – did you have a traditional wedding with a cocktail hour, dinner reception and dance? What was different about a destination wedding compared to a wedding at home?
We had a welcome reception the evening before the wedding (drinks and apps). The day of the wedding was the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception (+ DJ and dancing!). It was just easy for everyone to be in one place the day before and the day of the wedding. Easy to navigate around from event to event and it just felt more intimate! And each area around the resort that we held the events at were beautiful and unique in their own way.

What is your most favorite memory of your wedding experience?
The reception! It was just so memorable and fun to have all of our favorite people together to celebrate with us. The music, ambiance, and staff made the evening even more special!

In what ways did Romance Travel Group make the planning less stressful for you?
Being able to book our guests' travel and answering any questions they had!

What would you do differently? What advice would you give to couples just starting the planning process?

I wouldn’t do anything differently. Only advice is to be patient with the planning coordinator as you plan with them leading up to traveling. As mentioned, you may not hear from them for a while but it will ALL come together! Also, think about decor that you can bring down on your own to save $$ (they charge A LOT for decor). We brought down our own string lights, votives + candles, table numbers, and other decor.

Would you recommend Romance Travel Group to other couples who are considering a destination wedding?
Absolutely! 100%.

The Top 3 Questions Every Destination Wedding Couple Asks

1/7/2022

Curious what our couples ask us most often during the wedding planning process? We're revealing their questions, below!
The Top 3 Questions Every Destination Wedding Couple Asks

How much does a destination wedding cost?

For 7-nights at an all-inclusive resort, expect to spend approximately $3,000 for the both of you. Most resorts charge between $150-$250 per person, per night – but that includes your room, your meals, your drinks, taxes and airport transportation.

For 2 round-trip flights, you’re looking at a total cost of around $1,000. This will also be dependent upon the airline you’re using, the time of year, and of course, your destination of choice.

The wedding usually consists of 4 events; a welcome party, the ceremony, a cocktail hour, and a dinner reception. Wedding packages typically include the ceremony location, bride’s bouquet, groom’s boutonniere, officiant, cake, chairs for about 40 guests. Packages range from $0 (you read that right!) to $15,000, but most couples all into the mid-range of $5000 - $7000.

So, for a grand total of about $10,000, you and your fiancé can enjoy a week-long tropical wedding celebration for about a quarter of the cost of a normal wedding! For more on costs, check out our Destination Wedding Cost chart.

How to Save Money on Your Destination Wedding in 2022

11/23/2021

Why spend nearly $40k on a traditional wedding, when you can have a unique and intimate destination wedding for under $10k? Here are seven tips for keeping your budget in check without sacrificing any of the fun or frills:

Go All-Inclusive
For the best value, we highly recommend going all-inclusive. When all your meals, drinks, entertainment, airport shuttles and taxes are included, guests can gauge their budgets and plan accordingly. This is especially true for wedding groups, as the cost you pay for private dinners and events is significantly reduced. Convenience is also huge reason couples opt for all-inclusive. It is the best way to travel!

Pick Off-Season
The best rates are found during off-season in September and October. Besides the best room rates, you’ll find that resorts have lower occupancy levels during this time, leaving plenty of pool chairs open for everyone. November and December are also good options, as long as you avoid the holidays (when rates and occupancy goes way up)!

Choose a Simple Setting
A big draw to having a destination wedding is the natural and intimate setting it presents. Not only will it save you money on venue costs, but sometimes less really is more. After all, nothing says “I love you” like some swaying palm trees and an ocean view!

How to Save Money on Your Destination Wedding in 2022
Bring  Your Own Vendors
Have a photographer friend or hair-stylist BFF? Perhaps a DJ’ing college roomie? Well, then, you’re in luck! As long as these pros are staying at the resort with you for three nights, they are not typically considered outside vendors and you won’t have to pay extra to use them. Ask us how you can negotiate travel for these services.

Free Wedding Package
Most destination wedding resorts offer a complimentary wedding package, which covers all the elements you’ll need to pull off the perfect wedding. Some even offer an extravagant package that includes more than you’ll ever need. We recommend starting out with the basic package first, then add in where it makes sense!

Honeymoon Split-Stay
Another great way to cut down on costs is to combine your destination wedding and honeymoon (aka, a split-stay). Most couples stay at the wedding resort for 5-6 nights while guests are there, then move to a new resort where you can honeymoon for 3-4 more nights. This will save you a lot in airfare!

Use a Destination Wedding Planner
Last but not least…use a wedding travel specialist (that’s us!). A good travel pro will make suggestions for you and knows the resorts that offer the most amenities based on what your needs are. Trust us, you’ll be glad you did!

3 Reasons to Have a Destination Wedding

Destination Weddings are Cost-Efficient

It's Super Affordable
One of the biggest destination wedding myths we hear often, is that it’s too expensive, but with the traditional American wedding costing around $30,000 or more, it's no wonder most people assume a wedding in a tropical paradise would be more. Luckily, most properties in Mexico can hold a beautiful wedding ceremony and reception for you and your guests for as little as $10,000 – significantly cheaper than your average wedding.

And All-Inclusive
Another reason why Mexico is great for destination weddings is the all-inclusiveness. Most properties include meals, drinks, entertainment, and activities, so everyone and anyone is taken care of all day and night. We also have a number of properties that offer free wedding packages, which include everything from a private ceremony location, to the cake and drinks.
3 Reasons to Have a Destination Wedding

You Can Truly Make it Yours

All The Add-Ons
How often do you hear the word “complimentary” associated with planning a wedding? Yeah, not so much. But in Mexico, it’s no surprise to see complimentary sky massages, champagne and strawberries, or private dinners thrown in as a way of saying “congrats” to the happy couple. We’ve even helped our brides and grooms get complimentary honeymoon nights as an added bonus. 😉

And Customizations
Mexico is one of our most popular destinations for brides because of how abundant the options are. We partner with a variety of properties who value your uniqueness and creativity, so that ocean pier ceremony you’ve been dreaming about? Done. The monogrammed dance floor and custom cocktail you requested? You’ve got it.

It's Not as Hard to Plan as You Think

Planning as Easy as 1-2-3
Imagine having all the little details taken care of for you, as you watch your wedding dreams fall into place. That’s right! A destination wedding isn’t as hard to plan as you think. In fact, we’ll work with you side-by-side to ensure your day runs as smooth and stress-free as possible. We’ll even introduce you to the onsite wedding coordinator to go over all the fun details like decorations, food, and seating arrangements so everything’s covered before you get there. The best part? These services are complimentary! Can’t say that about your average wedding, now can you?

Types of Destination Wedding Packages

11/30/2020

Curious what wedding packages are available for your destination wedding? Then, keep reading for some insight!
Overall, All Wedding Packages Are Similar
All resorts have wedding packages. And frankly, they are all pretty much the same.  What one hotel has to offer, other hotels can provide as well. Most of them include everything from expert wedding designers and basic décor, to sound systems, the ceremony officiant, a wedding certificate, a semi-private dinner, a honeymoon package, and more!

Similar Wedding Package Costs
Most resorts have a complimentary wedding package option, making them quite similar in terms of pricing. We typically recommend taking advantage of the free package, then add in the pops of customization where it matters most to you. Wedding packages are usually non-negotiable (they won’t allow you to swap spa treatments for a cocktail party) but resorts will have plenty of options for you to add to your liking.

Look for The Best Group Amenities
If you really want to dive deeper into wedding packages, consider comparing each resort’s group amenities. Some resorts offer a ton of great freebies and incentives for couples hosting their wedding with them, while other resorts will actually charge you extra for having too many guests. We’ll make it easy for you by including the best options on our list of recommendations.

Pick Your Dream Resort FIRST
Since wedding packages are so similar, we recommend selecting your dream resort first. Look at the resort’s amenities, rooms, dining options, beach, pool scene. Does the overall resort atmosphere match the vibe you are going for for your wedding? Can you picture your guests hanging out in the pool and enjoying their time? Once you decide on the perfect resort, then you can customize the wedding package of your dreams.

How to Select the Best Resort
This all depends on your preferences! What amenities are important to you? Are you a beach-lover? A foodie? Want something private and adult-only? These are the things you’ll want to add to your wish list when working with your destination wedding specialist.

Major hubs like Cancun, Montego Bay and Punta Cana have a wide-range of flight options, as well as several price ranges to suit your budget. The advantage of choosing a destination with  a major airport also means you may find more direct flights and less layovers.

Keep Décor Simple
Many couples love the fact that a destination wedding needs very little to be beautiful (think minimal décor). Not only will it save you money on venue costs, but the scenery will make your day truly magical. After all, nothing says “I love you” like the natural beauty of swaying palm trees and an ocean view!

Use a Travel Pro
We can’t stress this enough! If you use a wedding travel specialist (that’s us!), they’ll be able to make suggestions for you and will know which resorts fit your budget and preferences. Spending hours searching online for the best deals will only waste your time and give you a huge headache! Allow the experts to find you the best value destination wedding that is tailored to you. Trust us, you’ll be glad you did!

So, there you have it! 4 ways to save money on your destination wedding. Pretty simple, right? For more info on destination weddings, feel free to contact us here!

What's Holding You Back from Having a Destination Wedding?

Hesitant about a destination wedding? Not to worry! We’re here to give you some reassurance.
Picture
…but what about the cost?
One question we hear all too often is, “how much does a destination wedding cost?” The answer? It varies! While a traditional wedding can typically be around $35,000 or more, we can plan you the destination wedding of your dreams for nearly a quarter of the cost. But to give you a ballpark, between the resort, the flights, and the all-inclusive wedding package, you can celebrate your love in paradise for under $10,000!

…but will my guests even come?
Another thing we hear is “will my guests want to come to my destination wedding?” The long and short of it? Everyone who is important to you will be there – and those are the people who matter the most! The reality is, only about 30-40% of the guests you invite are likely attend. But don’t take it personally – some folks might not have the budget or vacation time available to them right now, which is completely understandable.  Don’t let it hold you back from having your dream wedding!

…but how would I even plan it?
We’ve got that part covered! Our job as your destination wedding specialist is to make suggestions for you and provide you with the resorts that offer the most amenities based on what your needs are. In fact, we help you with everything from the booking process and travel arrangements, all the way to taking care of your guests and any issues that arise along the way. We also have dozens of connections across the world to ensure you receive the absolute best pricing, support, and perks you can’t find if you were to plan it yourself. Plus, we’ll hook you up with your very own onsite wedding coordinator to help you with the little details once you arrive!

Ah, that feels much better doesn’t it? To get started with one of our romance travel experts, message us today to start the planning process. Your destination wedding awaits…!

Destination Wedding Packages

Not all wedding packages are created equal – or are they? Keep reading to discover the truth about resort wedding packages.

Do all resorts have wedding packages?
Yes!

What is included in a typical wedding package?
In addition to your resort’s all-inclusive benefits, wedding packages can include everything from expert wedding designers and décor, to sound systems, the ceremony officiant, a wedding certificate, a reception dinner, a honeymoon or spa package, and much more!

How much do wedding packages cost?
Many resorts have a complimentary wedding package when you stay 7 nights or reach a certain number of guest rooms.  In fact, free wedding packages typically provide all the basics that you need for your wedding day. The free package is a great way to start planning. Looking for something more custom or specific? Well then, say no more – because most resorts also offer premium wedding packages for a small upcharge to match your specific preferences and personality! You can even build your package ala carte if you prefer.

Do wedding packages vary by resort?
Yes and no. While resorts present their wedding packages a little differently, at the end of the day, you’re getting the same goodies for around the same price. In fact, resorts in the same destination are often using the same vendors!! We always say... "don't just a resort by it's wedding package, because what one can do, they ALL can do!"

How do I pick the right wedding package?
Since all wedding packages are pretty much the same, we recommend selecting your dream resort first. Once you decide on the perfect place, then you can customize the wedding package of your dreams.

How do I know what resort to pick?
This all depends on your preferences! What amenities are important to you? Are you a beach-lover? A foodie? Want something private and adult-only? These are the things you’ll want to add to your wish list when working with your destination wedding specialist.
