News with Maya - How to Fly With Your Wedding Dress (Wrinkle-Free Tips)

About this video

How to fly with a wedding dress is one of the most common—and stressful—questions destination brides ask. In this video, we walk you through exactly how to travel with your wedding dress to Mexico or the Caribbean, wrinkle-free and worry-free.

Flying with a wedding dress doesn’t have to be intimidating when you know what to do. We recommend keeping your gown with you at all times as a carry-on, ideally in a structured tri-fold garment bag like a WallyBag. At boarding, ask the flight crew if there’s a closet available. If not, your dress can be laid flat on top of items in the overhead bin.

To protect delicate fabrics, use acid-free tissue paper between layers and pack your veil separately. Label your garment bag clearly with your name and resort. Once you arrive, plan ahead by scheduling steaming with the resort at least a day before your wedding, not the morning of!

We also cover what not to do: never check your dress, avoid compression or vacuum bags, skip wire hangers, and never pack heavy items or liquids in your garment bag. A small emergency kit with safety pins, fashion tape, needle and thread, and a lint roller can save the day.

Your wedding dress is irreplaceable. Proper planning ensures it arrives safely, looks flawless, and allows you to focus on enjoying your destination wedding experience instead of stressing over wrinkles.

At Romance Travel Group, destination weddings are all we do. From travel logistics to trusted partner perks—like our exclusive WallyBag discount—we help couples plan confidently every step of the way.

Here's what to do. Keep the gown with you as a carry-on in a structured trifold garment bag, like a Wall-E bag. At boarding, ask if there's a closet. If not, lay it flat on top of overhead items. Use acid-free tissue between layers. Pack the veil separately and label the bag with your name and resort. Bring a mini emergency kit, safety pins, needle and thread, fashion tape, lint roller, and pre-arrange steaming with the resort a day after you arrive. What not to do? Don't check the dress. Period. Skip compression or vacuum bags that crease delicate fabrics. Avoid wire hangers and tight clips. And don't stash liquids or heavy shoes in the garment bag.
