What led you to choose a destination wedding?

We decided on a destination weddings because neither one of us really wanted that huge 200 guest wedding. We wanted to keep it small and intimate while still having a great time with all of our family and friend. We also had a tight budget that we were trying to stick to and the destination fit in perfectly.

How did you select the resort? What were the deciding factors?

We have a lot of family and friends that are big into golf, so the resort being so close to another resort that they partner with for golfing was a big deal. We also had a few family members who were bringing their kids so we wanted to make sure that it fit both the older and younger generations. Lastly we didn’t want to have to travel too far from the airport so Dreams Vista fit into all of the boxes we were looking for.

What were some of your biggest fears about having a destination wedding?

I don’t know if we had any fears about doing a destination weddings since we were 100% sure about doing this. But there was some apprehension as we got closer to the travel that things were going to go haywire with planes, or weather, or issues with items being lost along the way. I think with any travel that is normal, but of course the women as RTG were fantastic, and everything ran as smoothly as possible.

Describe what it was like working with the wedding coordinator at the resort? What went well? Any challenges?

Josselyne was amazing, if anyone decides to go with the same resort I would highly suggest that they ask to work with her. She was so responsive to any of the questions we had along the way. The coordination was super easy as well, they give you a form to fill out and all of the different details that you would like to add onto any of the packages that you booked. We did a team meeting to review everything in full and overall it was just a seamless process.

Tell us about your wedding attire – How did you find it? Who went shopping with you? How did you feel wearing your wedding attire?

I got my wedding dress from David’s Bridal. I wanted to keep it super simple in the off chance that it go ruined by the weather. I had my mom, my sister, and my aunt with me while I was shopping to help me make the final decision. For Nick’s suit, we decided that we wanted to go with linen as it was going to be light-weight and thought that it fit well into the beach vibe we were going for. He of course ordered his suit online and had a local suit shop tailor it for him.

Describe the booking process for your guests. Did they find that to be easy to navigate?

Booking everything was so easy, Heather created a wonderful website for us that all of our guests were able to access and easily book all of the room stays. Everyone kept telling us how easy everything was and if there was any issues with bookings or questions that they had Heather was right there to respond in any way that she could.

Tell us about how you chose your bridal party and asked them to stand up with you.

We wanted to keep this small, so we just had our siblings as our bridal party. My sister was my maid of honor and Nick’s two brothers were his groomsmen/best man. We also had our nephew as the ring bearer. We didn’t do anything special per say to ask them but they all kind of knew that we were going to ask and that was just a great feeling because they all wanted to be there to support us on our big day.

Describe the meeting you had with the onsite wedding team when you arrived at the resort.

When we got to the resort we went right to check in, and then they directed us to where the wedding center was. From there we met Josselyne and sat down with her for about 30 minutes to go over all of the last minute items, gave her our wedding attire, and favors. We also took a tour of the resort to see where our ceremony would take place as well as the dinner. We did opt to have a welcome party the night before the wedding once we had all of our guests there as well, so we got to see where that would be held. Once the tour was done we then met with the photographer and walked through the whole timeline for the weddings photos. It was a great experience to be able to see everything and plan it all out when we first got there.

Were your guests wowed by the resort and the all-inclusive concept? What was their reaction upon arrival?

Everyone was happy with the resort that we picked. We chose to go with the preferred club option for our guests so it was nice that we go a private check in, and access to certain parts of the resort that not everyone could access. Most of our guests have stayed at all-inclusive before but over all they were happy with the way everything turned out and we did have a couple of people tell just that they would think about coming back to the resort for vacation in the future.

How easy/difficult was it to travel with your wedding attire? Did you carry-it on, where did you store it? Did you get a lot of comments at the airport?

Traveling with our wedding attire was super easy. We did choose to fly first class so that did make things a bit easier than normal but we decided that the extra cost was worth it. On the plane the flight attendants took the garment bag and stored it upfront in the closet. We did get some comments as we walked through the airport leaving New York and on the plane, which was nice to hear.

Tell us about your wedding – did you have a traditional wedding with a cocktail hour, dinner reception and dance? What was different about a destination wedding compared to a wedding at home?

We did have some what of a traditional wedding, with the reception, dinner and dance floor, but we opted to have a welcome party instead of a cocktail hour. The package that we booked allowed us to either do the welcome party for 1 hour or the cocktail hour, so we wanted to be able to see everyone before the actual wedding so hence why we went with the welcome party. Our ceremony was held on the ocean deck palapa which was so nice, it was out on the ocean and created the most wonderful backdrop to our big day. Our ceremony was held outside on the terrace, we had a buffet option for dinner, and then we had a Dj and the dance floor for everyone to party once dinner was over.

What was the best part of having a destination wedding?

The memories that we got with everyone, it was like taking a huge family vacation, and we wouldn’t change the experience we had in anyway. Also how easy everything was, from the initial planning, to the wedding coordination, to the travel everything was so smooth and we could not have asked for anything more than that.

What is your most favorite memory of your wedding experience?

I don’t think that we could pinpoint a single favorite memory. The whole overall experience of being in a great destination with all of our loved ones was just a great experience.

In what ways did Romance Travel Group make the planning less stressful for you?

In every way possible. If there is anything that I can say about the whole planning is that I felt like I didn’t even have to do anything. I know that is funny to say, but Abby and Heather made the whole process for my and my husband so easy and we could not be more grateful for the experience we had with them.

What would you do differently? What advice would you give to couples just starting the planning process?

Not a single thing. My advice that I would give to anyone who is just starting out would be to just go with your gut. I had no idea where to start with any of the planning, but once I had my first call with Abby I knew that she was going to be the one to make this process for me as smooth as possible.

Would you recommend Romance Travel Group to other couples who are considering a destination wedding?

Yes 100%, there is not a doubt in my mind that I would tell anyone who is looking for a travel wedding group that these women are the best in the business. They hand pick the resorts to you based on what you are looking for, and they have actually stayed at these resorts so they are able to give you true information on it. They will be there for any questions that you have, or any travel issues. I’m going to sound like a broken record but they just made the whole process overall seamless and so smooth that we could have no asked for a better team.
