Dreaming of saying "I do" with mountain views behind you, or barefoot on a beach with palm trees swaying? Whether it's just the two of you or all your closest family and friends, a destination wedding is such a beautiful way to begin your life together!

We know planning a wedding far from home can feel overwhelming, and where we come in! At Romance Travel Group, our job is to take the stress off your shoulders so you can focus on what truly matters: enjoying your wedding day. With us by your side, you'll have a partner handling all the travel details from start to finish. Here's how we help:

  • Guide you in choosing the right destination wedding resort
  • Help you understand the legal requirements for getting married abroad
  • Connect you with the resort's wedding coordinator (many of whom we know personally!)
  • Manage the travel arrangements for you and your guests
  • Oversee the entire planning process from beginning to end

Now, let's talk about what you'll want to consider when planning your destination wedding!

Budget

Think about what's reasonable for your guests. A typical 3-night all-inclusive wedding getaway (with flights, hotel, transfers, meals, drinks, tips, and taxes) usually starts around $1,000 per person. And remember, just like anything else, you truly get what you pay for.

Dates

Your wedding date has a big impact on cost.

  • Peak season (mid-January through Easter, plus all major holidays) = higher rates
  • Mid-season (Easter through early June, and early January) = average rates
  • Low season (September through early November, early December) = best deals

It's also smart to give your guests plenty of time to plan and save. Sending a Save the Date a year or more in advance is a great idea!

Guests

Not everyone on your list will be able to attend, and that's okay. On average, about 50% of invited guests make it to a destination wedding. Many couples plan a reception back home afterward to celebrate with those who were unable to attend.

Destination

Think about travel time! A Hawaii wedding sounds amazing, but if your guests can only take a long weekend, a nine-hour flight may not work. The same goes for more remote islands that require multiple connections. Keep in mind that all guests will need passports, and most resorts ask the couple and witnesses to arrive at least three full days before the ceremony.

Resort

Do you picture something small and intimate, or a lively resort full of energy and activities? We almost always recommend all-inclusive resorts because they make budgeting easy for guests. Plus, many wedding packages include a semi-private reception which saves you money that you can then put toward something else, such as an upgraded honeymoon suite!

Ceremony Location

Beach, garden, gazebo, chapel—you'll have options! Resorts usually offer several settings to choose from based on your wants and guest count, and they always have a back-up plan in case of bad weather.

Ceremony Type

You'll need to decide between a legal or symbolic ceremony.

  • A legal ceremony means your marriage is official in your destination and at home. It usually costs more and may require paperwork, extra steps, or even blood tests.
  • A symbolic ceremony means you take care of the legal part at home, then celebrate your "I do's" at your destination with vows, flowers, and music. Guests won't know the difference, and in fact, about 80% of destination weddings are symbolic.
