Whether your wedding dream consists of mountains vistas or beaches and palm trees, just you and your soon-to-be or with a long list of dear family and friends, a destination wedding is the perfect way to being your life together. We understand the anxiety that comes with planning a wedding in a foreign destination, so our job is to eliminate the stress by taking on the travel planning details for you. Our goal is for you to thoroughly enjoy your destination wedding day, knowing that all of the details have been taken care of for you. With Romance Travel Group by your side, all of the difficulty of destination wedding planning is gone! We will:
There are several things to consider when planning a destination wedding. Here is a list to get you thinking:
Consider how much you're comfortable having your guests pay for a 3-night vacation. Typically, budgets start at approximately $800 per person for a 3 night, all-inclusive vacation including air, hotel, transfers, meals, drinks, tips and taxes. Remember though, you get what you pay for.
Your wedding date will determine how much the trip will cost.
Don’t be upset if not everyone on your guest list can join you due to time or money constraints. Generally, about 30-40% of those you invite will be able to attend your destination wedding. Most couples have a reception back at home to celebrate with those who were unable to attend.
Try to keep travel times within reason. For example, you won't want to plan a Hawaii wedding if guests need to fly for 9 hours and can only stay for 3 nights. Likewise, the more exotic islands can often require multiple airline connections to get there. All guests will need a passport. Most resorts will require the bride, groom and witnesses to arrive 3 full days prior to the wedding ceremony.
Do you envision something small and intimate, or something loaded with activities and energy? We highly recommend all-inclusive resorts that include meals and drinks. This makes it so much easier for your guests to budget for their trip. And, many all-inclusive resorts include a semi-private reception with their wedding packages, which saves you money. Perhaps money that could be spent on a nice upgrade to the honeymoon suite!
Beach, gazebo, garden, chapel? Resorts usually have many options for you to choose from based on your desires and number of guests. Resorts also have a back-up plan and location in case of inclement weather.
There are two types of ceremonies for destination weddings. You can have a LEGAL ceremony, where you are legally married in your destination and receive a marriage certificate that is recognized at home. Legal ceremonies often cost a little more and require extra paperwork and occasionally blood tests. Or, you can have a SYMBOLIC ceremony that has no legal holding. To have a symbolic ceremony, you would be legally married at home by your clergy or courthouse before you travel. At your destination wedding, you will celebrate your union as if it were your actual wedding with flowers, music, vows and other ceremony details. Your guests will not know the difference between a legal and symbolic ceremony. Approximately 80% of all destination weddings are symbolic.
Our experienced and dedicated team of destination wedding travel specialists is just what you need to help you through all of the planning. And remember, we do not charge fees to work with us! We are confident that after one phone call with us, you'll WANT to work with us, so fees are not necessary. The value we provide is priceless. For months the team at All Inclusive Collection was raving about their new property called UNICO 20º87º Hotel Riviera Maya. It opened in March 2017, on time and fully prepared to welcome their first guests. I had been hearing incredible reviews from guests and agents who stayed at the property early on, and couldn’t wait for my own #MyUnicoExperience to come.
Arrival: I arranged for a private transfer from the Cancun airport to Unico. The ride took exactly 60 minutes in normal traffic heading south past Playa del Carmen. I was greeted with a cold, scented towel and a fruity drink. Check in was quick, no wristbands needed.
App: Before you leave home, download and sign in to the Unico App. The app allows you to view restaurant menus, order room or pool service, contact your local host (concierge), arrange housekeeping and wake-up calls, book spa treatments, order from the pillow menu, and view daily events. Pop-up events are also announced through the app.
Room: The standard room at Unico is the Alcoba Swim Up Pool room. I was given an Alcoba Ocean Front room, building 1, with full, sweeping views of the ocean. The rooms are modern and fresh and have a balcony with a hydro spa tub. Plan on falling in love with the robe hanging in your closet. You can purchase one to bring home for $100.
Drinks: Creatively crafted cocktails can be found in the lounges where drink menus show off unique blends of local flavors and infused liquors. Try them all! I had fun sampling from the Shot Cart that made its way around the pool areas.
Dining: I enjoy quality food and excellent service and Unico did not disappoint. The décor in the restaurant is beautiful and thoughtful. The staff has been trained well and knew how to execute even the minor details to perfection. Unico offers Italian, Asian, and Mayan cuisines, as well as a steak and fish house. I found a lot of little goodies and coffee in Café Inez as well.
Inclusions: One of the most unique things about Unico is their inclusion of unlimited spa treatments and local tours. You pay a 20% service fee/tax only on the services you book. The Unico website has a complete list of options you can choose from.
Spa: The gym and spa at Unico are beautiful! I booked The Esencia Signature massage, where two therapists work together in synchronicity. Amazing. I recommend pre-booking your spa treatments prior to arrival. The process is easy on the Unico website or through the app.
Private Events: I was at Unico for an industry event hosting over 250 guests. If you are considering a destination wedding or a corporate event, rest assured, the staff at Unico can put together one heck of an event for you! The difference is in the details, and Unico didn’t miss a beat.
Overall: I think I have been introduced to my new favorite resort! Unico has everything and left me longing for nothing. The exciting part is that Unico is just a baby yet, and I can’t wait to see how it grows and evolves over the next year. The All Inclusive Collection team has delivered an amazing new resort to us. Congratulations guys! Job well done!
Romance Travel Group is an award-winning agency focused on destination weddings, honeymoons and romantic vacations. During our stay at Unico, we attended the annual Showstoppers conference where we awarded the Double Platinum agent, Triple Platinum agency, Top Wedding, and the coveted Game Changer awards! Oahu’s agricultural bounty as well as engaging local experiences await clients who venture beyond the usual tourist sites to a farmer’s market. Here they purchase or sample local treats like Manoa honey or Waialua chocolate. One of the most convenient to Waikiki is the Saturday morning market at Kapiolani Community College.

This museum offers changing and permanent exhibits of Western and Asian art in a gracious setting. Available through the museum is a guided tour of Shangri-La, the fabulous 1930s waterfront home and gardens that belonged to tobacco heiress Doris Duke. Honolulu also has two of the only three royal palaces in the U.S. (the third is Hulihee Palace on Hawaii Island): Iolani Palace, filled with splendid architectural detail and priceless artifacts that tell the story of the last days of the Hawaiian monarchy; and Queen Emma Summer Palace, a peaceful country retreat shaded by kukui trees and filled with intimate memorabilia from the royal family. Guided tours of these places will give your clients a fascinating, behind-the-scenes look at a vanished era.
Another prime attraction in the area is Lyon Arboretum, a 124-acre botanical garden where visitors can enjoy self-guided or guided walks to see a vast array of native plants as well as a vast collection of taro varieties and fragrant herbs. The garden is an important research arm of the University of Hawaii.
